Health Certificates Required At Meadowlands
In light of the recent strangles outbreak at Saratoga Raceway, Meadowlands Racetrack has requested that, effective immediately, all horses shipping in to the New Jersey oval must have a 24-hour health certificate.
Rectal temperatures must be recorded and the following statement must appear on the health certificate:
“Horses on this certificate have not originated from a barn with a confirmed or suspect case of strangles, nor have shown signs suggestive of these diseases, nor have been febrile within the previous three weeks.”
In addition to a 24-hour health certificate, horses that have raced at or have resided at Saratoga Harness from March 1, 2012 through March 21, 2012 are required to have proof of negative strangles culture. Laboratory results must be faxed to the New Jersey Racing Commission Veterinarian at 201-635-0973 at least 24 hours prior to the race date. If any of these horses have been vaccinated against strangles, the NJRC Veterinarian must be contacted at 201-842-5127.
