Royal Regatta, Sweet Deisel Extend Streaks At Mohawk
In two claiming pace classes on the Monday, April 15 evening card at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Royal Regatta and Sweet Deisel each moved their win streaks to seven straight and six straight, respectively.
James MacDonald and the Clifford McGuire-trained Royal Regatta won a claiming pace worth $9,000 in gate-to-wire fashion, leading through panels in :27.2, :57.3 and 1:26.4. Down the stretch, Lets Get Rocked (Tyler Borth) posted a heavy threat to the leader, but Royal Regatta prevailed by a nose at the wire in 1:54.3. Highland Beach Boy (Bob McClure) finished third.
Royal Regatta (Mcardle-Mary O Mel) is a nine-year-old gelding owned by Nancy McGuire. He recorded his seventh win in 11 starts this year and 37th victory from 196 starts lifetime, moving his career bankroll over the $300,000 mark. As the bettors' choice, Royal Regatta returned $5.90 to win.
Sweet Deisel won his sixth straight race in the claiming pace going for a $20,000 purse on Monday's card. Louis-Philippe Roy took the Brett Lester student to the top from post seven. Sweet Deisel was caught on the outside in second through the opening panel in :26.2 before achieving the lead along the pylons. After that split, he handed out two more quarters in :54.2 and 1:23. Using a last panel in :27.1, Sweet Deisel won for the 27th time in his career, scoring by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:50.1. Head Honcho (James MacDonald) finished second with Instantaneous (Doug McNair) third.
In 100 starts, Sweet Deisel (Sweet Lou-Gentlemens Delight) has won $297,825 in career earnings. He earned his seventh victory of the season from 13 outings and returned $2.70 to win.
