First Training Triumph For Simpson
Pacing mare Little T held off her Friday foes in a photo finish, marking a memorable victory for trainer Riley Simpson at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Simpson celebrated her first career training triumph when Little T won the evening's $4,500 sixth race. The 30-year-old resident of Dorchester, Ont., who started training last year, won her 37th start after recording 10 other top three finishes.
Driven by Travis Henry, favoured Little T led the field of $8,000 claiming mares through opening panels of :29.3 and 1:00.4 before rebuffing a challenge from See The Delight past three-quarters in 1:30.1 and then holding off the inside surge of pocket-pursuer PDQ Hanover by a neck in 2:01.1. She paid $4.10 to win.
A 13-time career winner and just shy of the $100,000 earnings mark, the six-year-old Allamerican Native mare earned her first victory of the season for owner Shen Guo of Waterloo, Ont.
