Jett Propelled Rockets To Dover Victory
Jett Propelled raced aggressively and won the $69,189 final of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund late closer for three-year-old pacing fillies at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday night (March 27).
Jett Propelled sprinted to the lead approaching the quarter pole as 1-9 favourite Curtsyforpurrseco left from the outside and secured a spot in fourth. Jet Propelled cleared the lead and reached the opening quarter in :27.4 over a sloppy racetrack. Smalltown Bad Girl brushed for the lead past the quarter pole and parked out Grace O Malley to the :57.4 half. As Grace O Malley tired, Curtsyforpurrseco circled three-wide to take her shot up the backstretch, but Smalltown Bad Girl continued on the lead to three-quarters in 1:27.1 while Barton Dalious pulled Jett Propelled from the pocket and forced Curtsyforpursecco to continue on her three-wide path. In deep stretch, Jett Propelled was asked for more and she responded, winning by three-quarters of a length in 1:57. Curtsyforpurrseco finished second and Bellas Dream closed to finish third.
Jett Propelled, a three-year-old Roddys Bags Again-Jett Away filly, is owned and trained by Robert Shahan. She paid $14.20 to win.
In other action, Misty Coast won the $35,135 Mares Open Handicap Pace.
Misty Coast and driver Art Stafford Jr. forced Southwind Icenfire into the pocket after a :26.1 first-quarter duel and she continued on the lead through splits of :55.1 and 1:22.4. Turning for home, Southwind Icenfire dove to the pylons, but Misty Coast held her ground to win by a head in 1:52.2. Southwind Icenfire finished second and Jody circled stalled cover to finish third.
Les Givens trains Misty Coast, a four-year-old Powerful Mist mare who paid $4.20 to win, for Stephen Messick.
Beat Cop, who has won eight consecutive races, battles Future Star in the DSBF late closer final for three-year-old male pacers, which headlines Thursday’s closing night card at Bally’s Dover. First post is 4:30 p.m.
