Lass Shot Defeats The Boys In London Preferred
In the $11,600 Preferred Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, Lass Shot was the sole mare in the field made up of six boys. Scratched down to a field of five, Lass Shot shot to the top of the Wednesday, March 27 feature and never looked back, winning in gate-to-wire fashion by 1-3/4 lengths.
Garrett Rooney and the Brittany Kennedy student maintained a 1-1/2-length lead through panels in :28.4, :58.3 and 1:27.4 before continuing on to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:58. In fact, the top four finishers in the feature were all women-trained with Angie Carroll's Hot Fudge Sundae (Alfie Carroll) finishing second, Ashleigh Hensley's Andy Over (Ed Hensley) third and Katie MacNeil's Johnny Buckshot (Scott Wray) fourth.
Kennedy owns the seven-year-old Archangel-Dream On Bernie mare that she bred in partnership with Dennis and Janet Fairall. The mare won her third straight race and fourth race in nine starts this year. A winner of $155,794, Lass Shot owns a record of 25-10-11 from 85 track appearances. At 3-1 odds, she returned $6.90 to win.
