Convoy Hall Continues Success At Mohawk
Convoy Hall has had a successful start to 2024 and his career, adding the $18,000 conditioned trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, March 14 to his resume. Unraced as a freshman, the sophomore Muscle Mass-Constance Hall gelding is now three-for-three in his young campaign, banking $26,000.
The Robert McIntosh-conditioned gelding was steered to a gate-to-wire achievement by Sylvain Filion. Leaving from post three, Convoy Hall sprinted to the front and set panels in :27, :57.2 and 1:27.1. With ease, Filion and Convoy Hall opened up to win by five lengths in 1:55.4. BBC Sportsboy (Tyler Borth) took second and Ultra Lady S (Dagfin Henriksen) completed the triactor.
Convoy Hall is owned by Robert McIntosh Stables Inc, Douglas John McIntosh, Randy Liepa and Beverley Snobelen. The gelding was a $52,000 yearling purchased out of the Lexington Select Sale.
“I don’t buy many horses from the sales given I have my own breeding operation, but my brother was going down to Lexington and he wanted to get something for us," Bob McIntosh told Trot Insider in a feature story about his promising pupils. "When he went down there, he said he liked this colt a lot and when I saw the family, I said ‘go get him.’
“I trained his mother [Constance Hall] for Alan Leavitt and she made over $200,000 in her career. I also purchased two sisters of that same mare as well and they turned out to be quality racehorses as well, so I’ve had plenty of success with the family already.”
With his size and growth in mind, McIntosh turned the gelding out until his sophomore campaign this year in 2024. His debut proved successful with a 1:55.3 (last quarter :27.4) victory and was followed by a six-length triumph in 1:56.2 before Thursday's five-length achievement in 1:55.4.
As the heavily backed favourite, he returned $2.40 to win.
