Del Diggity Makes It Six At Mohawk
Del Diggity has enjoyed her time in the distaff claiming class this season and showed it once again on Thursday, March 7 after she won her sixth race in a row at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Garry Merner sent the mare to the gate from post three with Doug McNair holding the lines. Leaving from the gate, the pair never looked back. After setting panels in :27.4, :58.1 and 1:28.2, Del Diggity cruised home to a 1-1/4-length victory in 1:56. Shovanna (Trevor Henry) finished second and Italia Seelster (Louis-Philippe Roy) took third.
Del Diggity (So Surreal-Beach Sunset) is a six-year-old mare and winner of six races from eight starts this year. A winner of $133,810 in career earnings, Del Diggity has made 20 trips to the winner's circle from 93 starts.
Collector S topped the Thursday evening card with a win in the featured $21,000 conditioned trot.
Sylvain Filion and the Harry Poulton student landed in fourth through the opening panel in :28.2. Still maintaining position in fourth, Collector S moved to the outside at the half in :58.2. He found a place in second through the three-quarters in 1:27. Mercutio (Tyler Jones) rallied from the back of the pack in the final turn, meeting Collector S for the challenge alongside pacesetting Eternally Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) down the stretch. Closing in on the wire, Collector S pulled ahead to win by three-quarters of a length over Mercutio in second and Eternally Hanover in third. The final time of the mile was clocked in 1:55.4.
Collector S (Face Time Bourbon-With Me Always) is a four-year-old gelding owned by Thestable Collector S. He earned his second win of the year in eight starts and third career victory from 14 starts. He moved his career sum to $46,775. From 4-1 odds, Collector S returned $10.50 to win.
