Upsets Line Tuesday Features At Western Fair
A pair of $9,000 distaff conditioned paces served as the co-features for the Tuesday (March 5) evening card at The Raceway at Western Fair District and both were won in upset fashion.
Laila Blue won the first co-feature as she rode the pocket trip to a 11-1 upset victory. Travis Henry and the Douglas Good student followed favoured Exotic Dragon (Travis Cullen) through panels in :29.3, :59.2 and 1:27.2 before tipping out for the challenge in the stretch. Down the lane and to the wire the pair battled and at the light Laila Blue prevailed by a head in 1:56.4. Sports Duchess (Tyler Borth) completed the top three.
A seven-year-old daughter of Art Major and the Bettors Delight mare Delightful Diva, Laila Blue is owned by Good. She earned her first win of the year in nine starts and 13th victory in 130 career starts. Laila Blue has a lifetime bankroll of $175,890. She returned $24.60 to win.
Mcvera followed in the second co-feature with a gate-to-wire triumph from 6-1 odds. Brett MacDonald sent the Taylor Fritz student to the top. The pair clicked out fractions in :27.2, :57.1 and 1:26 before continuing home to victory by a quarter of a length in 1:56.3. Favoured J One Twenty (Borth) closed sharply, but had to settle for second. Rose Run Yvette (Jason Ryan) took the show spot.
Robert Woodburn owns the four-year-old daughter of Mcardle-Designer Dreams. Mcvera grabbed her third win from seven starts this season and her 10th career victory from 33 lstarts. Her career bankroll was moved to $60,776 with the win. She paid $14.30 to win.
