The Equine Disease Communication Centre (EDCC) has reported that a case of Equine Herpesvirus has been confirmed in a Standardbred located in Ontario.
Located in Middlesex County, Ont., a two-year-old Standardbred colt showed clinical signs of a fever on Feb. 29 and was admitted to a referral hospital on March 3 with mild ataxia and bladder paralysis. A nasal swab was positive for EHV-1 by PCR. The horse is in voluntary quarantine and recovering.
A veterinarian is working with those involved to implement biosecurity procedures.
