Spitfire Oversees Sets Miami Valley Record
Canadian-owned Spitfire Oversees became the fastest male trotter in Miami Valley history as he blazed to a 1:51.1 victory over the Ohio raceway on Monday, March 4.
Driver Brett Miller sent the four-year-old International Moni-Legal Lady gelding to the lead from post five in a $32,432 conditioned trot, clearing at the :27.3 quarter mark and drawing away from the competition after a :56.2 half with a sprint to three-quarters 1:23. They kept on rolling through the stretch, widening their margin to a dozen lengths by the end of the record mile. I Know My Chip and Dontforgetlittleman completed the top three finish order in a field of nine.
Spitfire Oversees' career-best 1:51.1 winning time was the second fastest mile by a trotter at Miami Valley Raceway, only behind Atlanta's 1:50.4 victory in the 2019 Miami Valley Distaff Trot.
Spitfire Oversees is owned by Thestable Spitfireovrsees of Guelph, Ont. Trained by Stacey Van Huizen, the trotter has won three of his eight seasonal starts at Miami Valley and now boasts 10 career victories with more than a quarter-million dollars in earnings.
Following a dominant 1:52.3 victory last week, Spitfire Oversees was sent postward as the heavy 3-5 favourite and paid $3.40 to win.
