Amigo Volo Prevails In Mohawk Preferred
Amigo Volo took home the winner's share of the $36,000 purse on Monday (Feb. 5) evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park after the Meg Crone student won the Preferred Trot by a neck.
Tyler Borth and Amigo Volo took the early lead from post five and set the tempo with an opening panel in :26.4. After that split, Handsome Sebastian (Sylvain Filion) retained the lead from the outside at the half in :55.4. Handsome Sebastian settled into the lead and Locatelli (Chris Christoforou) made his move on the outside at the three-quarters in 1:25.4, moving Amigo Volo back to third. The race to the wire heated up in the stretch with Southwind Oncore (Travis Cullen) throwing his name into the mix along with the trio of horses. Down to the wire, Amigo Volo pulled ahead for the victory by a neck in 1:53.4 over Southwind Oncore. Handsome Sebastian nabbed the third spot.
Pinske Stables and David Miller co-own the seven-year-old Father Patrick-Margarita Momma gelding, who recorded his first win of the year in three attempts. With $2,394,926 in the bank, Amigo Volo has a record of 32-22-12 from 87 starts. He returned $3.90 to win.
