Jody Jogs In Dover Distaff Winners Over Pace
Jody was a wire-to-wire winner in the $25,676 Mares Winners Over/Select Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday night (Jan. 31).
Jody and driver Allan Davis were the aggressors as they launched off the wings of the starting gate, pacing to the quarter-pole. That strategy forced Shield Maiden to settle in the pocket. Majorca N, who left from post eight, retreated to the four-path racing to the quarter.
Jody was on a mission as she cut out fractions of :27.2 to the quarter. The half was blitzed in :56.1, a :28.4 quarter.
Disturbed Hanover attacked first-over past the half. The 9-5 betting favourite, Majorca N, was carried second-over on the rim and Twin Delight was towed into a third-over position. Jody accelerated, pacing to the three-quarters in 1:24.1 a :28 flat quarter.
Majorca N was breathing fire and vacated her second-over position circling three-wide into the lane. Shield Maiden watched all the action from the pocket and was ready to strike. Jody remained strong in the stretch and coasted to a 2-1/2-length victory in 1:52.3. Majorca N rolled late and finished second. Disturbed Hanover raced first-over and finished third.
Jody (Betterthancheddar-Topgun Lady) is owned by Reginald A. Hazzard II of Millsboro, Delaware. Wayne Givens trained and Allan Davis drove the six-year-old mare, who now has a pair of wins and hasn't missed the board in her first four seasonal starts. She paid $9.40 for the win.
Tim Tetrick scored a driving triple on the betting card.
Racing continues on Thursday at Bally’s Dover where I Did It Myway and Penzance Hanover continue their feud competing in the Winners Over/Blue Hen Handicap Pace. There is a Pick-5 carryover worth $2,257 beginning on the sixth race for Thursday. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
