Tells On A Roll Doubles Against Mohawk Distaffers
Despite being parked through fast and foggy opening fractions, Tells On A Roll rolled on and persevered for her second straight victory in the $36,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Friday night (Jan. 26) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Driver Travis Cullen set out for the lead with Tells On A Roll, but was parked out by Huntress and Louis-Philippe Roy past a :26.4 opening quarter over the 'good' going. Those two distaffers continued to duke it out down the backstretch with Shes Got It All (Scott Young), who was in the mix early, protecting pocket position.
It wasn't until past the :54.4 half-mile mark that Tells On A Roll cleared to command for Cullen. She then opened up more than three lengths on top past three-quarters in 1:23.4, but So Much More (James MacDonald) was poised to pounce off cover in the stretch to make it interesting after her own overland journey.
While So Much More made late gains, the determined Tells On A Roll managed to hold one length clear through the stretch for the 1:53 victory. Meanwhile, 46-1 longshot Shes Got It All slipped between foes late to steal the runner-up honours from So Much More.
Sent postward as the 6-5 favourite after winning her season's debut in the Mares Preferred last week, Tells On A Roll returned $4.50 to win.
Jodie Cullen trains the four-year-old Tellitlikeitis-Have Rock Willrock mare acquired late in her sophomore season by owners Paul Sanders, A1stable and Ron Cullen. The Indiana champion now boasts 11 wins from 28 starts with earnings totalling $384,006.
