Barzy Is Best At Flamboro
Barzy saved ground before shaking loose late to score the victory in the $9,500 featured conditioned trot, which highlighted the 10-race Flamboro Downs card on Sunday, Jan. 14.
Sent away from post four in the field of six, driver Scott Coulter landed the 3-1 third choice in the fifth position early as Brett MacDonald sent Sicario to the lead through an opening quarter of :28.3. MacDonald gave the favourite a breather in the second quarter, settling things down on the front to the halfway point in :59.1.
The cover flow began to develop on the backstretch, with Floyd The Freak and Ed Hensley the first to move from third while Coulter opted to keep Barzy along the pylons with Sicario leading to three-quarters in 1:28.2.
The outer flow began to retreat on the final turn, giving Barzy a clear path to tip from third as Sicario turned for home with the lead. Barzy surged in the lane, powering home in :28.3 to track down a game Sicario by a neck on the line to score the victory in 1:57.4. Flaunt It To Winit and J Harris rounded out the trifecta.
Scott Coulter co-owns the five-year-old gelded son of Bar Hopping-Legzy along with trainer Steve Coulter. The victory was the second in as many tries in 2024 and sixth of the career for Barzy, who has now banked $47,397 lifetime.
Scott Coulter completed the sweep of the late double in the finale with Yankee Up for his second win on the card.
