Borth Sweeps Western Fair Co-Features
Tyler Borth scored with four on Tuesday (Jan. 9) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District including with Bucktober in the featured $11,000 Preferred Trot and Arizona in the co-featured $11,000 Distaff Preferred Pace.
Bucktober and Borth were the first to the opening panel clicker in :29.1 from the outside before settling into the lead. The Katie MacNeil student led the field through two more panels in 1:00.1 and 1:30 en route to a 1-1/4-length victory in 2:00.3. Marvin Hagler (Brett MacDonald) finished second and Heavy Dude E (Ryan Desroche) completed the triactor.
Bucktober had a career season last year with an eight-win streak to accompany 12 wins overall. He banked $70,540 of his $115,978 lifetime sum in 2023. With his first win in his second start of the year, Bucktober rolled into his 20th career tally from 48 starts. Borth co-owns the five-year-old Flanagan Memory-Armbro Equinox gelding with William Borth and Karen Sparling. As the favourite in the field scratched down to six, he returned $3.10 to win.
Arizona duplicated her last victory on Dec. 28 to take her second consecutive Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace, worth $11,000, at the London, Ont. oval.
Borth and the Mike Timpano student made every pole a winning one through panels in :28.4, :58 and 1:27.4 before continuing home to win by two lengths in 1:57.4. Wildcat Delight (Brett MacDonald) finished second with So Frisky (Colin Kelly) third.
Wendy Warren Timpano co-owns the five-year-old Up The Credit-Jo And Maria mare with Herman Bardoel. She won 15 of her 31 starts in 2023, earning $89,320 of her $122,820 bankroll during the season. She now has 20 wins from 42 career starts. As the heavily backed favourite, Arizona returned $2.40 to win.
