Power And Grace Upsets In Flamboro Preferred
Power And Grace overcame a blanket finish of challengers at the wire in the $11,000 Preferred Trot at Flamboro Downs to win in upset fashion at 9-1 on Thursday, Jan. 4.
Despite being the longest shot on the board, Power And Grace (Lormer McClure) soared to the front and designated herself the pacesetter for the mile. The Ron MacDonald student clicked out panels in :28, :58 and 1:27.3 before she felt her greatest challenge in the stretch among a wall of opponents. Down to the wire, Power And Grace pressed on to win by a neck in 1:57.1 over Midnight Miracle (Scott Young) in second and The Fixer (Steve Byron) in third.
Hartel Maintenance Inc., Lormer McClure, Brett MacDonald and Reg Higgs share in the partnership behind the nine-year-old Holiday Road mare. In 39 starts in 2023, Power And Grace frequented the winner's circle 11 times, only ever missing one cheque. Her accumulation of $108,400 in purses last season led her to push her earnings with Thursday's win past the half-million mark to $501,644. The victory started her out on the right foot to the new year and moved her career win count to 57.
With her longshot odds, Power And Grace returned $19.60 to win.
