'Gouda,' 'Sundae' Share Spotlight Wednesday In London
An $8,000 conditioned pace and an $8,000 conditioned trot were served up on the Wednesday (Jan. 3) evening menu at The Raceway at Western Fair District as a pair of co-features with their respective winners hungry for victory as Oh Gouda and Hot Fudge Sundae reigned above the rest.
Oh Gouda was up as the first treat of the evening and with trainer Michael Horner holding the lines in the feature pace, the filly made every pole a winning one. Maintaining a buffer between herself and her foes, Oh Gouda clicked out panels in :28, :58.4 and 1:28 before continuing home to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:58.3. Sweet Cheeseus (Garrett Rooney) followed the pocket trip to second while Gimme A Corona (Anthony Haughan) sprinted home to take the show spot.
Oh Gouda (Betterthancheddar-Oh The Joy) is owned by Mark Horner and R A W Equine Inc. The four-year-old mare moved her career record to 12-4-5 with $68,813 banked from 36 starts.
As the second choice in the mile at odds of 3-1, Oh Gouda paid $8.80 to win.
Hot Fudge Sundae also used a gate-to-wire tactic in the $8,000 conditioned trot. After setting panels in :29, 1:00 and 1:29.3, Alfie Carroll and the Angela Carroll student maintained their lead to victory by a length in 2:00.1. Heavy Dude E (Ryan Desroche) finished second and Jooner (Tyler Borth) was third.
Angela Carroll and Mary Carroll co-own the seven-year-old gelded son of Kadabra and the Chocolatier mare A Sundae On Sunday. Moving his career sum to $112,628, Hot Fudge Sundae earned his 17th career victory in 97 starts.
Selected as the bettors' choice in the mile, Hot Fudge Sundae returned $3.30 to his backers.
