Western Fair Preferred Trot To Marvin Hagler
'Marvin,' MacQuarrie, and MacDonald teamed up to snag the first $11,000 Preferred Trot of 2024 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Brett MacDonald held the lines of the Mark MacQuarrie-conditioned Marvin Hagler as they took the outside in the feature trot scratched down to four. Favoured Andy Over (Ed Hensley) designated himself as the pacesetter for the mile and led the field single file through the opening panel in :28.4 and half in :59.1. En route to the three-quarters in 1:28, Marvin Hagler was pulled first-over from fourth and his efforts were followed by Bucktober (Tyler Borth). A miscue by the pocket-sitting O Narutac Perfetto (Colin Kelly) left the top three contenders to battle down the stretch. At the wire, Marvin Hagler prevailed by a neck in 1:58.1 over Bucktober, who finished second by a neck over Andy Over.
MacQuarrie co-owns the five-year-old gelded son of Crazed and the Muscles Yankee mare Showmeyourmuscles with Mary Pedden. Marvin Hagler earned his 17th career victory and moved his lifetime sum to $130,595. He returned $8.50 to win as the 3-1 third choice in the field.
