Century Jaguar Speedy In Mohawk Monday Feature
Though he doesn't look like the fast cat he is named after, Century Jaguar lived up to the namesake as he topped the Monday (Jan. 1) evening card at Woodbine Mohawk Park with the fastest of two mile times in a co-featured $21,000 conditioned trot event.
From post nine, Trevor Henry and the Shannon Henry-conditioned trotter got away fifth through panels in :27.3 and :56.1. Sylvain Filion and Majordancemoves were the first to pull to the outside and Century Jaguar followed their lead second over as they reached the three-quarters in 1:25.3. Around the final turn, Century Jaguar overtook the pacesetting If The Shoe Fits (Doug McNair) and kept on going to win by two lengths in 1:54.2. If The Shoe Fits was second and Match Meif You Can (Brett MacDonald) completed the triactor.
Trevor Henry Stables Inc., Norm Dunstan, Richard McGlynn and David Hudson co-own the four-year-old Resolve-Witnesstheprincess gelding, who earned his fourth career victory and moved his bankroll to $70,195. Century Jaguar returned $7.70 to win.
In the second $21,000 co-feature, Crystal Baller (Trevor Henry) won by a neck in 1:56.1 over Mercutio (Louis Philippe Roy) in second and Munk (Doug McNair) in third. Alan Fair trains the four-year-old Muscle Mass-Bloomfieldcantifly gelding for Elizabeth Fair. He paid $16.10 to win in the upset.
