Dreamfair Zenfire Goes Out A Champion
An impeccable career on the track closed down in winning fashion for Dreamfair Zenfire on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 23) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Happy Retirement Dreamfair Zenfire Pace was won in fitting fashion by the race’s namesake in a 1:56 mile with Marc Campbell in the bike for trainer Brent Campbell. In the $3,300 class, Acefortyfour Dome (Jason Hughes) finished second ahead of Sugar Bowl (Mark Bradley). The victory was Dreamfair Zenfire’s 57th lifetime in her 149th lifetime start for owner’s Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris, P.E.I.
The seven-year-old track record-holding daughter of Sunfire Blue Chip is being retired to the broodmare ranks for the 2024 season at Burkie By The Bay Stables.
Campbell also won with Dorabella (2:00) for trainer Kyle Desroche and Dukeofthewest (2:01.1) from the Stacey Darrach barn for the triple.
Driver Hughes scored a grand slam on the program, including a trio of wins with the Jennifer Doyle-trained Glider Man (2:00.2), Elm Grove Mistress (1:57.4) and Traces Of Purple (1:58.2). Skip Across was the other Hughes-driven winner as the Stanley Harper trainee won in 1:58.4.
Live harness racing continues on Dec. 26 with a Tuesday afternoon Boxing Day program at Red Shores Charlottetown.
