Dreamfair Zenfire Bows Farewell At Red Shores
Canada’s winningest horse of 2021 will close out her career in the Saturday, Dec. 23 afternoon feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The city track has a 13-dash presentation starting at 12:30 p.m., with the race 12 featured slated as the Happy Retirement Dreamfair Zenfire Pace. The seven-year-old daughter of Sunfire Blue Chip will face the starting gate one last time in her career after hitting the wire first 56 times from 148 starts for $208,366 in earnings. Owned by Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris, P.E.I., the pacer has a number of notable accomplishments in her career including her 1:52.3 Red Shores Charlottetown overall Atlantic record for aged pacing mares set on Aug. 14, 2021. That season, she also garnered the title of winningest horse in the nation with 17 victories. Her big wins included the Ruby Chappell Memorial final, the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares final and the Birthplace of Confederation Series final.
Her last start this Saturday has her leaving from post three in the $3,300 event with regular driver Marc Campbell at the controls for trainer Brent Campbell, after the mare won this class her last start in a 1:57.2 clocking. Stablemate Plain Jane (Ken Murphy) has rail control with Tobins Brownie (David Dowling) leaving from post two.
Jason Hughes, the newly announced finalist for the O’Brien Award of Horsemanship to be presented at the national O’Brien Awards on Feb. 3 in Charlottetown, has a pair of entries in the field. Post four has Acefortyfour Dome (Hughes) while Sugar Bowl (Mark Bradley) has post five.
Chelski (Corey MacPherson) rounds out the field from post six from the Jennifer Doyle stable.
The "Post Time Picks" is going with Dreamfair Zenfire to end her career on a winning note: “Dreamfair Zenfire bounced back with an incredible win in her latest after subpar efforts in her two previous starts. If she’s as good as she was last week, it will be a race for place.”
