Dreamfair Zenfire Best In Red Shores Preferred
Dreamfair Zenfire was not to be trifled with on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16 as she won the Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace by open lengths at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
In the $3,500 feature, Tobins Brownie (David Dowling) set the early tempo of :29.1, 1:00.3 and 1:29.3 but 5-2 second choice Dreamfair Zenfire exploded from the outside flow to win by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:57.2 for driver Marc Campbell. She paid $6.90 to win. Chelski (Corey MacPherson) finished second ahead of favourite Sugar Bowl (Jason Hughes) for the $295.90 triactor ticket.
Brent Campbell conditions the winning mare, a seven-year-old daughter of Sunfire Blue Chip, for Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris, P.E.I. The win was Dreamfair Zenfire's eighth of her 26-race campaign and 56th lifetime.
Marc Campbell clicked for five wins on the day, including a trio for trainer Brent Campbell. The duo also won with Plain Jane ($2.50), who was dropping out of the Mares Preferred for a 1:57.3 score, and The Lady Sheriff ($3) in 1:58.4. Marc Campbell's other wins on the 13-race card were with the Kevin MacLean stable's Itsuptoyou ($2.40) in 2:01.3 and the debuting Trevor Hicken-trained two-year-old Ouchie ($7.30) in 2:01.1. With his five wins, Marc Campbell expanded his driving lead to nine races over Hughes with four programs left in the calendar year.
Trainer Ron Matheson had a pair of winners with the Dowling-driven Stealing Bases in 1:58.4 in the Cardigan Feed Services Ltd. Pace and Outrageous Style (Gilles Barrieau) in 1:58.1.
