Campbell Crushes The Competition At Century Mile
Outlawstormywether topped stablemate Metaki in a neck decision for Brandon Campbell as Alberta's leading horseman ended Friday evening with half a dozen driving wins to dominate the eight-race card at Century Mile.
In Friday's $8,900 featured finale for conditioned and claiming mares, Campbell secured a pocket trip for his popular trainee Outlawstormywether ($3.80) from the trailing tier and prevailed as the eight-year-old Blue Burner mare stepped ahead in deep stretch and held off late-closing Metaki and Doug Chappell in the 1:55.1 mile.
That was Campbell's closest finish of the night and followed consecutive victories with Teddy Hanover ($11.90), trained by Brent Bodor, and Artician ($3.30), conditioned by Jacques Lambert.
Earlier, Campbell opened the card with trainer Samuel Johnson's three-year-old filly Raging Beauty ($3.10) breaking her maiden and the Calgary, Alta. reinsman made back-to-back trips to the winner's circle after taking the third and fourth races with John Chappell trainee Outlaw Allie Oops ($2.60) and Kelly Hoerdt stable's Ima Beach Diva ($4.80), who won her third straight.
Jamie Gray and Dave Kelly were the only other drivers to make it to the winner's circle on Friday evening while Campbell picked up cheques, finishing fourth, in both of those races.
Campbell's six-pack pushed his 2023 win count to 288 and earnings over $2.2 million in a career-best campaign.
