Fred Brayford Passes
Longtime harness racing industry participant Fred Brayford of Alliston, Ont. passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023 at the age of 87.
Fred was a longtime active owner, breeder and wagering fan of harness racing for over 40 years commencing at Barrie and Orangeville raceways and competed at most racetracks in Ontario, in the Ontario Sires Stakes, Grand Circuit and international races. Fred was a most loyal owner to many trainers including Tom Artandi, Murray Brethour, Wayne Henry, Carl Jamieson, Colin Johnson and recently Meg Crone.
Fred won many memorable races with some of his favourite horses namely, Rabbi Of Racing, Warrawee Ideal, Roberts Rage, Dont You Smile, Fireball, Captain Sir and Auckland Reactor N among many.
Beloved husband of 62 years to Janet (McCague). Loved father of Scott (Nicole), Rob (Christine), and Tom (Stacey). Loved grandpa of Laura (Mitch and baby Charlotte), Jacob (Lara), Hannah, Ben, Sam, and Jack. Cherished brother of Betty (Mike Sawyers), predeceased by Ken (Ruth) and Alice (Norm Farnell). Fred will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held at Drury Funeral Centre, 519 Victoria St. E., Alliston on Monday, Nov. 27 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Drury Funeral Centre on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 1 p.m. Private family interment to follow. Reception will be held at the Gibson Centre 63 Tupper St. W., Alliston following the Funeral Service from 2-5 p.m.
