Daisy Corvette Revs Late To Win Mares Preferred
The class-climbing Daisy Corvette circled a field of Alberta's top distaffers on Friday night (Nov. 17) to earn her fifth consecutive victory at Century Mile.
After trailing a field of seven in the first half of the featured $14,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace, Daisy Corvette came driving late to extend her win streak in rein to Mike Hennessy.
Outlaw Sharktastic (Nathan Sobey) sped off the gate from the far outside and worked her way to the top through the turn over the inside three. She led past a :27.3 first quarter while Saphire Blue (Thomas Miller) abandoned a early pocket pop and continued to lead the way the half in :56.1. That's when 6-5 favourite Stash The Cookies (Brandon Campbell) made her move and swept up from fifth to take over as they raced by three-quarters in 1:24.2, but Daisy Corvette was revving up from the backfield and she drove clear at the end to win in 1:53.2. Finishing 1-1/2 lengths behind the winner, Sunshineatthebeach (Jamie Gray) edged out Stash The Cookies and Gold Onthehorizon (Phil Giesbrecht) in a photo for place.
Climbing up from the claiming ranks, Daisy Corvette earned her second straight win at the Preferred level after setting a distaff track record of 1:51.4 on Oct. 20. She is now five-for-five since landing in the care of new trainer Shanisty Andres after being privately purchased by Tammy Muschell in early October. The win was her 11th lifetime and pushed her career earnings over the $100,000 mark.
Sent postward at odds of 5-1, Daisy Corvette paid $13.70 to win.
