Attracting a six-figure bid, five-year-old trotting gelding Brookview Bolt topped the Blooded Horse Sale Company's Fall Speed Sale, which took place on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the Champions Center Arena in Springfield, Ohio.

Selling as Hip 105 from the Burke Racing Stable consignment, Brookview Bolt was purchased for $100,000 by Leah and Bill Rhoades of Clarksville, Pennsylvania. Competing in the Open ranks at Hoosier Park, the Indiana Sire Stakes graduate took his mark of 1:52 this past spring.

“I needed an Open trotter for Northfield Park and The Meadows,” said Bill Rhoades. “He fits that class well; I’ll see which of my owners want a part of him.”

Selling next as Hip 106, Coastal was a $85,000 purchase by Jonas L. Schlabach of Apple Creek, Ohio. Also consigned by Burke Racing Stable, the Ohio four-year-old champion mare by Downbytheseaside out of Pink Camo earned half of her 16 career wins this year while pushing her bankroll to $332,203 through 55 starts. She took her mark of 1:50.2 facing Open distaffers at The Meadows this past summer.

Ohio Sire Stakes graduate Favorite Aunt, Hip 94, rounded out the top three highest priced horses of the sale with a $53,000 price tag. A career winner of seven races and more than $200,000 from 48 starts with a mark of 1:54 taken over Northfield Park this past summer, the four-year-old daughter of Uncle Peter and Contessa Leigh was purchased by Steiner Stock Farm of Lima, Ohio. from the Burke Racing Stable consignment.

The 76th annual Fall Blooded Horse Sale had a 13 per cent year-over-year increase with an almost identical 300 horses sold versus 302 last year.

“We knew we had a good group of horses catalogued,” said sale manager Jerry Haws. “We appreciate the stables that consigned nice racehorses and the breeding farms that sent attractive mares, yearlings and weanlings.”
