Sunshine Boy Repeats In Fraser Preferred
Sunshine Boy earned his second straight victory at Fraser Downs, taking a wet and windy edition of the Preferred Pace on Friday evening, Nov. 10.
Regular reinsman Scott Knight was reunited with Sunshine Boy for Friday's $10,000 feature and put the even-money favourite on the front after a :27.3 first quarter. They led the rest of the way, setting middle fractions of :57.2 and 1:25.4 en route to the 1:53.4 victory over the 'good' track.
After winning in similar fashion a week ago, Sunshine Boy was sent postward as the bettors' choice and returned $4 at the betting windows. Early leader Mach Steady (John Abbott) followed two lengths behind in second, running his runner-up streak to four, while Waitin Onariver (Kevin Anderson) rounded out the top three finishers.
Owned by trainer Jim Marino along with J J J Stables and Paul Sanders, the five-year-old Sunshine Beach-Betterfrombehind gelding has now won five of his eight starts at the Fraser meet for his current connections. The victory was his 19th lifetime and bumped his bankroll to $225,828.
Knight, who also won the Mares Preferred amid a driving grand slam on Thursday, swept half of Friday's eight races while combining with Marino for two.
