Dayton Opens To Marloe Hanover, Smoking Jet
Returning to Dayton Raceway in the same form she left it, Marloe Hanover dominated the $25,000 Fillies And Mares Open Handicap Pace on Friday, Nov. 10.
After dabbling in Breeders Crown Grand Circuit action, Marloe Hanover (pictured above) returned to Dayton Raceway a winner. A Mares Open winner in her last Dayton appearance on Oct. 13, Marloe Hanover took no prisoners in her return to the Ohio oval and made every pole a winning one despite starting from the dreaded outside post nine in a field of 10 with one trailer. Driven by Sam Widger for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr., the six-year-old daughter of Captraintrecherous carved out fractions of :27.1, :55.2 and 1:23 en route to a 1:51 victory by a neck, fending off stablemate Alexa Skye and 2-1 favourite Penpaperpaige.
Owned by Let It Ride Stables, J L Benson Stables and Bottom Line Racing, the millionairess notched her 12th win of the season from 32 starts and 35th lifetime victory. Marloe Hanover paid $13.20 to win.
In the $25,000 Open Trot, Smoking Jet was crowned the victor, scoring in gate-to-wire fashion. Leaving from the outermost post in a six-horse field, Smoking Jet took early command and put up fractions of :28.1, :57.3 and 1:25.4 on his way to a 1:54.2 truimph by a half-length over favourite Refined, with last week's winner Adamsville Road third.
Smoking Jet was driven to victory by Dan Noble and is trained by Ron Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Chris Page. The six-year-old son of Triumphant Caviar now boasts $582,522 in lifetime earnings. The gelding also has a dozen wins this year, from 25 starts, and notched his 36th career win. Smoking Jet paid $7 to win as the 5-2 second choice.
