Better B Bold Wins Stateside Debut
Ontario Sires Stakes graduate Better B Bold moved relentlessly without cover, put away the leader at the top of the lane and scored decisively in Friday’s co-feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $12,100 conditioned pace.
Hammered down to 2-5 in his debut for new connections stateside, two-time OSS Gold winner Better B Bold was a leisurely fifth when Aaron Merriman sent him on his way. The three-year-old son of Betterthancheddar-B So Lucky gobbled up the front-ending Bet On Zette and triumphed in 1:51.3, 1-1/2 lengths better than Double Up N, with Bereaved Hanover third. Todd Luther trains Better B Bold, who now boasts a career bankroll of $222,756, for Greg Luther Racing LLC.
In Friday’s companion feature, a $12,100 conditioned trot, Windsong Patriot led at every call for the second straight week to prevail for Hunter Myers and trainer Melanie O’Donnell, who owns with Corey Hendricks. Another former OSS competitor, the seven-year-old E L Titan-Windsong Idol gelding triumphed in 1:55, a length better than Parshall, with Smashing Racquets third. Windsong Patriot boosted his lifetime earnings to $238,180.
Chris Lems, Ronnie Wrenn Jr. and trainer Ron Burke each fashioned a triple on the 13-race card.
Live harness racing at The Meadows resumes on Wednesday, with first post at 12:45 p.m.
