Trotting Trio Tops Final Day Of Harrisburg
A pair of mares with powerful pedigrees shared the spotlight with a major stakes winning sophomore on the final day of the 2023 Standardbred Horse Sale on Friday, Nov. 10 at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa.
Three horses each fetched $450,000 final bids to top the leaderboard during the second and final mixed session of the sale.
Swanky Hanover, Hip 1417, was the first $450,000 sale of the day. The daughter of Muscle Hill-Secret Magic is a full-sister to the accomplished and renowned triple millionaire and world champion Manchego. The Preferred Equine-consigned mare was collared by Jim Avritt Sr. of Lebanon, Ky.
The gavel also fell at $450,000 for Hip 1472, Bella Ciao. The three-year-old daughter of Muscle Hill-Ciao Dolce hails from the family of 2022 U.S Trotter of Year and double millionaire Bella Bellini. Also consigned by Preferred, Bella Ciao was collared by Winning Key of Worthington, Pa.
Saving the best for nearly the last, 2023 Hambletonian Oaks winner Heaven Hanover (pictured above) was the penultimate horse of the entire sale and the trotting filly certainly kept the crowd from making an early exit. Consigned by Diamond Creek, the daughter of Father Patrick-Hillarmbro sold as Hip 1606 and she brought a $450,000 final bid from agent Robert Undstrom.
McSeaside was the highest priced pacer sold during the Friday session. Listed as Hip 1382 and consigned by Diamond Creek, the Grand Circuit stakes-winning daughter of Downbytheseaside-Mcgibson went to Erika Sergent of Blairsville, Pa. for $360,000
Hip 1416 wasn't a buy back, but 2022 O'Brien Award finalist Silly Me Hanover will be heading home. The daughter of Walner-Shared Past was plucked from the Preferred consignment for $335,000 by her breeder, Hanover Shoe Farms of Hanover, Pa., to round out the top five sales of the day.
The mixed session of the 2023 Standardbred Horse Sale concluded with 605 horses and stallion shares selling for a sale record $27,972,000, with an average of $46,235 over the two-day mixed offering. In 2022, 492 horses and shares sold for $25,694,000, thus averaging $52,224.
