Dewey Arnold, SD Watch Me Now Win Vernon Co-Features
Dewey Arnold (Dylan Huckabone-Miller) and SD Watch Me Now (Lee Morris) grab the co-features on Saturday (Nov. 4) at Vernon Downs.
Dewey Arnold ($4.80) took the $8,500 featured trot. He got to the quarter first in :27.3 and then used a :29.1 second quarter to be first to the half in :56.4. Golden Kronos (Greg Merton) was first to challenge going first-over heading around the final turn. Dewey Arnold led to three quarters in 1:25.4. As they reached the stretch Dewey Arnold found another gear and breezed to an easy win in 1:54.2. Sevenshotobourbon (Tom Merton) came up to finish second. Golden Kronos was third best.
Dewey Arnold is a five-year-old gelding by Deweycheatumnhowe. Owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst, it was his fifth win this season. He now has 30 career victories.
SD Watch Me Now ($56.00) sprung a big upset in the $8,500 featured pace. Bluesville (Tom Merton) was first to the quarter in :26 while Primo Uomo (Steeven Genois) took control heading to the backstretch and was first to the half in :55. He cruised to three-quarters in 1:23. As they made the turn for home SD Watch Me Now came up to challenge Primo Uomo for the lead. The two battled all the way down the stretch. SD Watch Me Now took over and had to hold off the late challenge from second place finisher JMs Delight (Greg Merton) to win in a lifetime best of 1:52.1. Primo Uomo had to settle for third.
SD Watch Me Now is a five-year-old gelding by Wind Me Up. Owned by Forward Step and trained by Morris, it was his sixth win this season and the 14th win of his career.
