Upset Winners In Dayton Opens
Mossdale Lottee N and Adamsville Road were upset winners in a pair of Open events featured on Friday, Nov. 3 at Dayton Raceway.
In the $25,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace, Mossdale Lottee N (pictured above) and driver Jeremy Smith retreated off the car to sit fifth ahead of race favourite Penpaperpaige while Love Me Hill set up early fractions of :26.3, :56.1 and 1:22.4. Mossdale Lottee N made a bold first-up move heading towards the three-eighths mark and was forced to grind things out the hard way, working her way to a 1:51.3 victory by a neck with Shadows Dancers finishing second and Love Me Hill a half-length back in third. The victory kicked off a five-win night for Smith.
Mossdale Lottee N is trained by Jason Brewer, who co-owns with Tonya Nichols. The seven-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight now boasts more than $200,000 in career earnings while succeeding for the eighth time this season in 24 starts. Mossdale Lottee M paid $51.40 to win.
In the $25,000 Open Trot, Adamsville Road took advantage of a perfect pocket trip with driver Sam Widger at the controls. From post eight, race favourite Smoking Jet quickly took control and set fractions of :26.4, :56 and 1:23.3. Adamsville Road followed closely and pounced up the passing lane to win in 1:52.3 by a neck over late-closer Caviar Gold, with Smoking Jet settling for third a length behind.
A four-year-old gelded son of Swan For All, Adamsville Road is trained by John Ryan Melsheimer and is owned by Mel Rose Stable and Joe Nesselroad. Adamsville Road now boasts more than $370,000 in lifetime earnings while succeeding for the seventh time from 24 starts this year. Adamsville Road paid $11.70 to win.
