Windemere Best Man Takes Inverness Feature
While the Inverness Raceway season is winding down, meet-leading driver Redmond Doucet kept up his winning ways as he guided Windemere Best Man to victory in Sunday's afternoon feature.
Windemere Best Man delivered on his 4-5 pari-mutuel promise in the $1,800 Winners Over, grinding first-over and wearing down the persistent pacesetter, Sunshine Lou (:28.2, :59.2, 1:29.1), in deep stretch for the 1:59.2 victory by 1-3/4 lengths. After challenging early for the lead, Euchred settled for a pocket trip and finished more than six lengths behind in third.
Windemere Best Man paid $3.80 to win.
Lanny Hanscombe trains the five-year-old Malicious gelding, who now has seven wins this season -- all at Inverness -- from 22 starts for local owners Simon Poirier and Chad MacDonnell.
Defending dash driving champion Doucet will look to put the finishing touches on another Inverness title during the season finale next Sunday, Nov. 5. He holds a 10-win lead atop the 2023 driver standings with 33 victories. Zach Mullins and Don Beaton are tied in the trainers' race with 15 wins each. First-race post time is 1 p.m.
