Harold Delaney Passes
Harold Thomas Delaney of Sydney, N.S. passed away on Oct. 20, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital at the age of 82.
Harold was employed with the school bus garage for 45 years. He also spent many years in harness racing as an owner, trainer and driver. After retirement, he was always busy going for drives, repairing anything he thought needed fixing, but his favourite past time was entertaining his grandchildren.
He was born in Sydney to the late Edward and Ella (Fillmore) Delaney. Harold is survived by his daughters Brenda (Danny), St. John, and Karen (John) Hawco; two sons Dougie (Paulette) and Gary (Beatrice); brothers Greg (Avril) and Arthur (Kathy), B.C.; and a sister Trudy (The late Richard Duchemin). Also left to mourn their Papa are grandchildren Tara, Christopher, Cheryl, Aaron, Brittany, Ali, Taylor, Ryley, Kortney, Kaysen and Mckenna; and 10 great grandchildren. Harold is also survived by his in-laws Evelyn Timmons, Faye MacLeod, Elaine Macleod, Greg Keigan and Lorraine Delaney; and many nieces and nephews, especially special nephew Scott.
Along with his wife Norma Keigan, Harold was predeceased by a daughter Cheryl, brother Lawrence and sisters Ila MacEachern and Beverly Veldhuis.
Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 25, 2023, at Spanish River Hall, Sydney River. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
