Southwind Stratus Upsets At Western Fair
The Raceway at the Western Fair District hosted freshman and sophomore Ontario-sired fillies for the $23,800 final for the Autumn Series on Monday (Oct. 23) evening and Southwind Stratus upset the field of eight with a win at 11-1 odds.
Greystone Cheet O (Lorne House) took the early lead and set the opening panel tempo in :28.3. Southwind Stratus and Austin Sorrie followed her lead in the pocket. Vivi Z (Travis Henry) moved first over en route to the half in :58.3 and as she was followed by Cabana Nana (Colin Kelly), Southwind Stratus was pushed back to fourth. As the outer flow bids started to stall, Southwind Stratus continued in third along the pylons at the three-quarters in 1:27.2. Sorrie and the Rachel Andrew student made their advance in the lane and overtook the leading Greystone Cheet O in deep stretch to win by a quarter of a length in 1:58. Im A Karen (Paul MacKenzie) rallied from seventh to take the show spot.
Murray Graham Macdonald owns the freshman daughter of Bettors Delight and the Well Said mare Silent Serenity. She earned her second win with a new best time in five starts. Southwind Stratus paid $24.70 to win.
