Emmetts Buddy Excellent At Mohawk
Emmetts Buddy delivered as the even-money choice on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Woodbine Mohawk Park to notch his second $32,000 Preferred class score in his last four outings.
With Travis Cullen getting the call above the wheels, Emmetts Buddy was settled into fourth early as Cold Creek Queso (Tyler Jones) fronted the field through a :26.3 opener before yielding to Funatthebeach N (Trevor Henry) around the three-eighths mark.
Henry's lead with Funatthebeach N was short-lived as Livinthebeachlife was right-lined from third by Jonathan Drury. Livinthebeachlife was the leader at the :54.3 midway point and 1:22.3 third station.
Cullen started his move with Emmetts Buddy just before the third quarter, and got a bit of cover around that far turn as Cold Creek Queso wedged his way out of third to re-engage the pacesetter. Cullen accepted that cover until the field of six straightened for home. Once the wire was in sight, Cullen angled Emmetts Buddy into the three path and the pacer responded to that open road with glee, pacing home powerfully through a :26.3 final quarter for the 1:50 decision. Ron (Phil Hudon) also closed well to finish second with Livinthebeachlife rounding out the top trio.
Four-year-old Emmetts Buddy (In The Irons - Logicallyinclined) is trained by Mike Kwietniowski for breeder-owner Arthur Rey of St Claude, Man., who also enjoyed an open class win at The Loop earlier in the day. The win for Emmetts Buddy is his 10th of the year and 17th lifetime, lifting his career bankroll to $215,519. He returned $4.20 to win.
