Autumn Series Finish Too Close To Call

Northern Classic and Fast Resolution dead heat

The early miscue from heavy favourite Lady All Star left Saturday's Ontario Sired Autumn Series final for two- and three-year-old filly trotters wide open for another filly to find the Flamboro Downs winner's circle.

As it turned out, a pair of fillies did just just that.

Second choice Allstar Goldi (Scott Coulter) took the early lead in the $21,000 event and carved out first half fractions of :30 and 1:01. At the half, Northern Classic (Anthony Haughan) was flushed out from third by Fast Resolution (Todd Ratchford) and Northern Classic cleared to the top just past the 1:31 third station. Fast Resolution was left uncovered and kept advancing steadily up on the rim.

Turning for home, Allstar Goldi darted back inside to the passing lane and Fast Resolution found her best stride to challenge Northern Classic and provide a three-across finish too close for announcer Gary Guy to call. And with good reason: there was a dead-heat between Fast Resolution and Northern Classic in 2:01.4, with Allstar Goldi just a head back in third.

Two-year-old Fast Resolution (Resolve - Candy Lanel) is trained by Jacob Roberts of Fergus, Ont., and he co-owns the filly with Steve Adams of Toronto, Ont. and James Woods of Guelph, Ont. That was her first win in six tries, and she paid $9.50 to win.

Northern Classic (Muscle Mass - Her Name Is Lola) is trained by Gabby Sasso for Jeff Courchesne of Cambridge, Ont. and Martwest Racing Stable of Mississauga, Ont. The sophomore paid $8.50 to win, with this her second career victory.
