Rotten Ronnie Ruthless In Inverness Feature
Rotten Ronnie proved to be ruthless at Inverness on Sunday, Oct. 15, scoring his fourth victory in his last six starts in the Winners Over feature on the eight-race card.
Starting from the far outside post five, driver Redmond Doucet left alertly with Rotten Ronnie to land the pocket spot behind Sunshine Lou and Donald Gillis through an opening quarter of :30.1. Rotten Ronnie found himself boxed-in in the second-quarter with Custards Dungeon and Zachary Mullins recovering from a miscue on the first turn to lead the outer flow as Sunshine Lou continued to lead to the half in 1:00.1. Custards Dungeon retreated entering the third turn giving Rotten Ronnie open road to pop the pocket and go on the offensive, quickly rallying within a neck of Sunshine Lou at three-quarters in 1:30.1.
The duo continued to battle on the final turn, matching strides before Rotten Ronnie put away Sunshine Lou at the top of the stretch. Pacing home in :29, Rotten Ronnie had enough left in the tank to fend off a hard-charging Eastcoast Invader and Monica Sutherland by a length and a quarter on the line in 1:59.2. Sunshine Lou held for third. Rotten Ronnie returned $3.20 to win as the 3-5 favourite.
Doucet also co-owns the five-year-old Malicious-Victory Cry stallion along with Andy Stewart. Trained by Lennan Macisaac, Rotten Ronnie notched his sixth seasonal victory in 10 outings and pushed his career bankroll to $92,995.
