Side Piece Scores In Century Mile Feature
Side Piece and trainer-driver Brandon Campbell teamed up to take home the winner's share of the $14,000 purse in the Distaff Preferred at Century Mile on Friday (Oct. 13) evening.
From the rail, Side Piece got away third and stayed there through panels in :27.2, :55.3, and 1.24, set by favoured Stash The Cookies (Philip Giesbrecht). Down the lane, Side Piece moved off the pylons and passed the pacesetter to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:53.3. Stash The Cookies took second and Past Affair (David Kelly) finished third.
Side Piece is a three-year-old daughter of Shadow Play owned by J J J Stables and Jim Marino. She earned her sixth win in seven starts this season and tenth career tally in 13 starts. The mare has only missed the board once in her career, giving her a grand sum of $162,542 banked. She paid $5.80 to win.
