Shadow Play Wins Windy City Pace
Shadow Play gutted out a tough first-over journey to take Friday’s $275,000 Windy City Pace for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings at Maywood Park.
The 2008 Little Brown Jug winner started from Post 5 for driver Dave Miller and slipped into third as Badlands Nitro (Brian Sears) and Mucho Sleazy (Mike Oosting) were one-two at the :27 quarter. Badlands Nitro got an easy second split, setting the half-mile marker in :55.4, but that is when Miller moved Shadow Play first-over.
Shadow Play closed in on Badlands Nitro down the backside, but had still yet to get on even terms with the leader at the 1:23.1 three-quarters. Around the final turn, however, Miller urged Shadow Play on and he won the stretch battle with Badlands Nitro by a head in a stakes record 1:50.4.
Mucho Sleazy completed the top three.
Shadow Play, a son of The Panderosa – Matts Filly, is co-owned by trainer Dr. Ian Moore, R G McGroup Ltd. and Serge Savard. In 21 starts as a sophomore, the colt is 12-1-1 with earnings of $732,921. Now a 15-time winner, Shadow Play has a bankroll of $764,072.
