El Rey Sells For More Than Half A Million
Speedy sophomore pacing colt El Rey will head to a new stable after fetching a sale price exceeding $500,000 on Friday, Oct. 13.
El Rey (Captaintreacherous - Mystery Game) brought a winning bid of $525,000 from Andrew Harris of New Jersey on Friday afternoon at onGait.com. The 2022 Governor's Cup winner as a two-year-old, El Rey has faced the best in his division again this year winning two legs of the Kentucky Sire Stakes at The Red Mile while finishing a close second to Confederate in a Meadowlands Pace elimination (timed in 1:47.3). In his latest start, he was flying in the stretch to just miss picking off Cannibal in his Tattersalls division. He sports a record of 1:48.3 with more than $433,000 in earnings.
The partnership of Brittany Farms LLC, Versailles, Ky. and El Rey Racing, Versailles, Ky. were the consignors.
Earlier this week, the Stay Hungry freshman Strapper Hanover p,2,1:54.1f was sold by Steve Heimbecker to Jody Jamieson for $64,200; the standout Ohio-bred Liteningonthebeach p,3,1:50.2f leaves Brian Brown's barn and goes to Bill Bercury for $61,000; and the Captaintreacherous three-year-old old Cerulean Hanover p,3,1:51.1f nabbed a high bid of $53,000 from Joseph Barbera.
