LGs Jaxon, Going Platinum Take DSBF Finals
Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) Stakes action for two-year-olds wrapped up on Wednesday (Oct. 11) at Harrington Raceway with two $110,000 trotting finals in the books.
In the male trotting final, trainer Les Givens had two entries and finished first and third as Nanticoke Racing's LGs Jaxon ($2.60, Jim Morand) was a 2:02.2 winner over Portnoy and LGs Bluestone. The Rolls Blue Chip gelding notched his second straight win in front end fashion.
Going Platinum ($34.20) and Corey Callahan sprung an upset in the first division with a 2:02.2 victory over heavily favoured Daburg, who was previously unbeaten in three starts, and Platinum Proposal. Owned by Breakaway Racing, the daughter of E L Platinum received a two-hole trip behind Daburg and responded to Callahan urging in the stretch to trot by the favourite for her first career win. Trained by Nick Callahan, Going Platinum boosted her lifetime bankroll to nearly $76,000.
Corey Callahan capped an 11-win week over the three-day week at Harrington with three wins in the first six races, including a win in the $50,000 Allen J. Cook Memorial with Star Razor in 1:55. Owned by trainer Nick Callahan, Yorwhollahan Racing and Greg Godbout, the five-year-old Dejarmbro gelding was a front-end winner over Not For Moni and Secret Jet. The win was his fifth of the year in 11 starts.
Allan Davis joined Callahan with a driving triple. Trae Porter and Ross Wolfenden each had driving doubles.
Live harness racing will continue Monday through Wednesday until Oct. 18. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
