Turbochargedpete and driver John Calabrese crossed the half-mile mark last of the eight, but when the field swung back around for the finish, they were in charge of the pack and won the $9,000 American Harness Drivers Club (AHDC) Trot at Freehold Raceway on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 30).

Keystone Apache (Bob Hechkoff), the 9-5 favourite, led the field by a :29 first quarter and quickly faced pressure to the top of the stretch first time. Blogmaster (Matt Zuccarello) led the outer tier out of third and moved up to the leader’s wheel by a 1:00 half. At this point, Calabrese sat fourth over with Turbochargedpete, and with the speed soft up the backside, he unleashed his charge to swoop and lead the outer tier. Turbochargedpete drew alongside Keystone Apache after three-quarter in 1:30 and downed him in the lane, sliding 1-3/4 lengths clear to a 1:59.4 victory. Allindotime (Bruce Baker) grabbed third, another three lengths back, with My Big Kadillac (Mike Polansky) fourth.

Scott Di Domenico trains Turbochargedpete, a six-year-old gelding by Uncle Peter, for owners Chris Page and Triple D Stables Inc. He paid $13.20 to win.

AHDC action returns to Freehold Raceway next Saturday, Oct. 7 for the fourth preliminary of its Fall Trotting Series. The AHDC will also be in action this Sunday, Oct. 1 at Harrah’s Philadelphia for a pair of $9,900 pacing events towards the end of the 15-race card. First-race post time at Harrah’s Philadelphia is 12:40 p.m. (EDT).
