Vernon Victories For Telenovela, Prairie Magical
Telenovela and Prairie Magical won the co-features at Vernon Downs on Friday, Sept. 29.
Favourite Telenovela ($4.40) and Dylan Huckabone-Miller charged late to win the $6,000 featured trot.
Purpose Blue Chip (Leon Bailey) was first to the quarter in :26.2 and stole a :30.4 second quarter breather to be first to the half in :57.1. Skyway Professor (Claude Huckabone Jr.) was first to make a move down the backstretch while Purpose Blue Chip continued to lead to three-quarters in 1:27. As the field made the turn for home, Purpose Blue Chip led the way but Sweet Sofie T (John MacDonald) found an opening at the inside and the two battled for the lead. Telenovela, sitting eighth with a quarter-mile to go, came flying late like she was shot out of a cannon and blew by them both to win in 1:56.2 by three-quarters of a length. Sweet Sofie T finished second and Purpose Blue Chip had to settle for third.
Telenovela is a four-year-old mare by Devious Man. She is owned by Daley Double Racing Stable and trained by Claude Huckabone III. The win was her seventh this season from 23 starts and her 13th career victory.
Three-year-old filly Prairie Magical ($15.60) and Dan Harvey prevailed in the $6,000 featured fillies & mares pace.
Favourite Shes So Sweet (Leon Bailey) led to the quarter in :27.4. Heston Honey (Brennan Enos) went first-up down the backstretch and challenged for the lead with Shes So Sweet getting to the half first in :57.1. Prairie Magical made her move going three-wide around the final turn with Shes So Sweet still in control at three-quarters in 1:26.1. As they reached the stretch, Prairie Magical and Shes So Sweet were slugging it out as Dream On A Roll (Barton Dalious) slipped through the inside to make it three-across the track. Prairie Magical got there first in 1:53.4, beating the older mares by a head. Dream On A Roll finished second over Shes So Sweet.
A homebred daughter of Royel Millennium, Prairie Magical (pictured above) earned her fifth win of the season from 19 starts and now has six career victories for owner/trainer Laurie Poulin.
Live harness racing returns to Vernon Downs on Saturday, Sept. 30 with a 10-race card starting at 6:05 p.m.
