Sunshine Boy Wins Fraser Preferred By A Nose

Sunshine Boy winning at Fraser Downs

Fraser Downs's Preferred pacers put the photo finish camera to work in the Friday feature, with Sunshine Boy prevailing over favourite Itll Be Fine by a nose for driver Scott Knight.

Leaving from post five in the $10,000 Preferred, Sunshine Boy established the early lead over Itll Be Fine (Kelly Hoerdt), but the even-money favourite looped to the lead after the :27.1 first quarter. Itll Be Fine stole a second quarter breather to the half in :57 and turned back a first-over challenge from Redstone Arsenal (David Hudon) past three-quarters in 1:24.4. Turning for home, Knight sent Sunshine Boy up the passing lane and timed it perfectly to catch Itll Be Fine right on the line, winning in 1:52.4. Shir Gain (Tyson Jacoby) closed off cover to edge out last week's winner Vertical Squirt (Clint Warrington) two lengths behind the top pair in another photo finish for third.

Sunshine Boy has won two of his last three starts since joining the Jim Marino stable at the Fraser meet. Marino trains and co-owns the five-year-old Sunshine Beach-Betterfrombehind gelding with J J J Stables and Paul Sanders.

Last year's Keith Linton Memorial Stakes winner now has 16 victories lifetime and nearly $210,000 in earnings.

Sunshine Boy paid $2.90 to win as the 5-2 second choice
