First Win For Toll; Fifth Straight For Sheplaysforkeeps

Flamboro Downs racing action

Ms Meaghan Sparkel and driver Ryan Desroche took no prisoners in the seventh race at Flamboro Downs on Saturday, Sept. 16 to provide Shayna Toll with her first career training win.

The 22-year-old Toll also owns Ms Meaghan Sparkel, a five-year-old daughter of Big Jim - Itza Free For All who was never better than she was on Saturday night. After fractions of :28.4, :58.4 and 1:27.2 against her $10,000 claiming rivals, Ms Meaghan Sparkel pushed home in :29.2 for the lifetime best 1:56.4 score. She paid $6.10 to win.

After starting the year 0-for-19, pacing mare Sheplaysforkeeps ($3.20) has certainly found her stride as of late. With an off-the-pace 1:56.1 score for driver Colin Kelly in the evening's third race, Sheplaysforkeeps picked up her fifth straight victory.

Sheplaysforkeeps is a six-year-old Betterthancheddar mare from Keystone Wendy. Now a nine-time winner in her career, she's owned by her trainer Raphael Bourassa of Fergus, Ont. and Kim Ebacher of Trois-Rivieres, Que. As the 3-5 favourite, Sheplaysforkeeps returned  $3.20 to her $2 win backers.
