Powertrain

A runner-up to Warrawee Vital in the $75,000 Free For All at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Sept. 2, Powertrain made every call a winning one during his Friday, Sept. 15 qualifier at Mohawk in possible preparation for another Free For All appearance in one week's time.

With Louis-Philippe Roy at the controls in the morning's first qualifier, Powertrain powered through panels of :29.2, :58.3 and 1:26.2 before closing his mile with a :26.4 final quarter to trip the timer in 1:53.1. Highlandbeachsbest (James MacDonald) was second, more than two lengths in arrears, with Warrawee Vital (Trevor Henry) an unasked third.

Lifetime, the five-year-old gelding boasts a 9-7-3 summary from 33 starts with more than $306,000 in earnings.
