Emmetts Buddy Is Manitoba's Fastest
When Emmetts Buddy races this Saturday at Woodbine Mohawk Park, he'll be attempting to make a unique bit of Canadian harness racing history.
The four-year-old son of former Ontario Sires Stakes star and current Manitoba stallion In The Irons and Logicallyinclined has reached career-best form for breeder/owner Arthur Rey of St. Claude, Man. and trainer Mike Kwietnioski. Climbing the class ladder at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Emmetts Buddy has won four of his last eight starts, pacing in 1:49 and 1:49.2 to capture his two most recent efforts on Aug. 26 and Sept. 2.
With the 1:49 mile, Emmetts Buddy became the first Manitoba-sired performer to break the 1:50 barrier.
Technically, Emmetts Buddy became the fastest Manitoba-sired horse with his 1:50.2 win at Mohawk on Aug. 5. Before him, the fastest Manitoba-sired pacer was Friendly Farmer, who paced in 1:50.4 at Woodbine Racetrack in August 2006. Interestingly, Manitoba-sired Racemup came close to Friendly Farmer's record with his 1:51 speed badge earned in 2019. Racemup is a half-brother to Emmetts Buddy, giving Logicallyinclined two of the three fastest Manitoba-sired performers. The 14-year-old mare, a daughter of Shark Gesture-Artisticallyinclined owned by Arthur Rey, is a sister to the stakes and Preferred winning $855,000 earner Physicallyinclined as well as 2022 O'Brien Award finalist and $300,000 winner Ace Of Aces.
On Saturday, Emmetts Buddy will leave from post five in the evening's $30,000 fifth race for conditioned pacers in search of his third straight sub-1:50 score with Tyler Borth in the bike.
