George Wain Passes

In loving memory of George Wain

Former trainer/driver George Wain of Brantford, Ont. passed away suddenly in the early hours of Sept. 1, 2023 at the age of 76.

George was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 20 years Kim Wain, his parents Myrtle and Orval Wain, and his brothers in-law Terry Peirce and Dennis Martin. He leaves behind his beloved sister Sylvia, his niece Georgia (Chris), his great nieces Emma and Avery (Connor), and his many friends who had become like family.

George was a great hockey player who was scouted by Chicago at a young age. His path went in a different direction and he pursued a career in an area he was already passionate about, harness racing. He drove at tracks in Ontario and the U.S., where he was well known as 'Jiggers.' He could drive any horse he sat behind. He had his own stable of horses he trained and carried the love of horses throughout his entire life. He shared that passion with his sister, Sylvia, and passed his wisdom and knowledge onto his niece and great nieces. His family will keep his memory and legacy alive through harness racing with his colours passing to his youngest great niece, who followed in his footsteps with her own trainers license. He will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sept. 23, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. in Brantford, Ont. at the Airport Community Hall. All are welcome.

Donations can be made to the Alzheimers and Dementia Society of Canada or to the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of George Wain.
