Freshman Trotting Colts Battle In Hoosier INSS
Indiana Sires Stakes continued at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Thursday, Sept. 7 as the evening’s 14-race card was highlighted by a pair of divisions for the two-year-old colt trotters. Tonight’s action completed the fifth round of their six-round series.
Flirtnwiththepilot and Peter Wrenn converted a pocket trip into a victory in the $67,500 opening division of Indiana Sires Stakes for the trotting colts. Stopping the timer in 1:56.1, Flirtnwiththepilot was able to track down the pacesetting Mel Gibswan and Ricky Macomber Jr. late in the lane to get the victory. Meadowbrook Master and Trace Tetrick closed intently to round out the trifecta. Sent off as the bettors’ choice, Flirtnwiththepilot returned $4.80 for the victory.
Trained by Melanie Wrenn, the gelded son of Pilot Discretion-Savannahs Lucy recorded his fourth win from six lifetime starts. Owned in partnership by S&R Racing Stables, Bottom Line Racing LLC, Hickory Hollow Stables and Wrenn Racing, Flirtnwiththepilot now sports a lifetime bankroll of $88,420.
In the second division, Gruesome Twosome and Daryl Bontrager continued their winning ways and captured their second straight stakes victory. Moving first-over just after the half, Gruesome Twosome tracked down the heavily favoured Dashing Danny and Kyle Wilfong on the line. Stopping the timer in 1:53.4, Gruesome Twosome established a new lifetime best in the process.
Trained by Bontrager, who co-owns the son of You Know You Do-All Set Lets Go with Ira Steinberg, has now won four of six lifetime starts. Gruesome Twosome has now amassed $122,125 in lifetime purse earnings. The victory was one of two on the card for trainer/driver Daryl Bontrager.
